Jahtara Hutchinson-Bobb is a Black Caribbean Canadian woman of Jamaican and Vincentian descent, a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist, Child and Youth Counsellor, and community advocate with over 15 years of experience in mental health, addictions, and youth and family-focused work.
Karen’s Afro-Carib Healing Space was founded from Jahtara’s deep commitment to addressing the mental health needs of African, Black, and Caribbean communities and creating spaces where healing is culturally grounded, affirming, and accessible. Her work is guided by the understanding that meaningful healing happens when cultural identity, lived experience, and community wisdom are centered.
Alongside her community work, Jahtara is also a psychotherapist in private practice, supporting individuals navigating trauma, grief, and behavioural challenges. Across both clinical and community spaces, she remains deeply committed to breaking the silence around mental health, reducing barriers to care, and fostering environments where people feel seen, valued, and supported.
As a College Professor and lifelong learner, Jahtara is passionate about advancing culturally responsive practice and nurturing the next generation of practitioners and leaders. Her work reflects a belief in the power of connection, advocacy, and collective healing to create lasting change.
